This course is central in understanding Islamic thought and the development of what came to be called Sufism. We will explore the question of what is meant by love between God and man. Imam Ghazali tells us that all the spiritual stages one is to ascend conclude with the love of God. We will explore Quranic verses and traditions, with a deep reflection on them to show that love for God is a necessity both in this world and for eternal bliss in the life to come.
